Mandy Pichler is a Chicago-based photographer and journalist.
She earned her prestigious (and pricey!) Bachelor's degree in Photojournalism from the SI Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 1989. Immediately after graduation, Mandy put her camera down with no intention of picking it up again. It wasn’t that she tired of photography; she had been obsessed with the medium since taking photography classes in high school back in the dark ages when public school systems offered art in its curriculum.
She was, however, equally obsessed with writing and quickly began earning a living (semantics!) writing for creative agencies and marketing departments.
Then the unexpected happened. Mandy ‘put down the drink’ and she never drank again (as of today). Without a beverage in both hands, she found herself eager to hold a camera again. She began noodling around with point-and-shoots, acclimating to digital vs. film and moving from a darkroom to Lightroom (and other Adobe Creative Suite programs). Soon after, against the odds and the conventional wisdom of those who know her, Mandy managed to save a chunk of money.
She immediately spent it all on professional camera gear (Canon 5D Mark III and lenses).
Today, Mandy photographs and reviews live music and events for publications nationwide. And she's loving almost every minute of it.
